  Mexican Hat    
Scientific Name: (Ratibida columnaris)
Mexican Hat is named for a flower that looks strickingly like the traditional high-crowned, broad-  brimmed Mexican sombrero. Common throughout most of Texas, Mexican Hat blooms from May to July.

   Indian Blanket, Firewheel
Scientific Name: (Gallardia pulchella Compositae) 
The Indian Blanket is a red flower, with a yellow margin that blooms from May to September. (8) The flower is 1-2 inches in diameter.(1) The usual height is about 1 foot. (1) It is one of the easiest flowers to get established from seed. It does well in full sun and well drained soil. (8) Indian blanket is an excellent wildflower for erosion control because it establishes so quickly. It makes a good choice for 
beach fronts.(8)

       Purple Coneflower
Scientific Name: (Echinacea purpurpea Compositae)

The Purple Coneflower is a wildflower that blooms from April to June.  There are several species that grown in different regions of Texas. (1) The flower is usually pale-reddish purple in color and makes an excellent cut flower with a vase life of 5 to 7 days. The root contains the drug echinacea, and Native Americans used a decoction as a blood purifier, as a wash for wounds, and a gargle for sore throat. It is used today in the treatment of septicemia. Purple Coneflowers work well when landscaping with natives. The plants are available in nurseries, and it is easily started from seed.
